Late 2013 Reviews!

Here we go with attempting to put all the reviews in one place for the latest crop. First up is Forbidden Planet, who had some words to say about Drokk!

As always- if you spot anything, drop me a mail and let me know where to find it.

Drokk

Available now- DROKK

Every now and then we at Zarjaz are pitched a story we can’t really do in Zarjaz proper, for many, many reasons. This is a collection of stories that either could not, or should not exist. It is also one of the finest issues we have ever compiled. Warning-
This comic may hurt you:

Strips:

Judge Death- Personal Business. 5 pages by writer Richard McAuliffe and artist Roland Bird

Kingdom. 3 pages by writer Richard McAuliffe and artist Roland Bird.

M.A.C.H. 3- Conflagration. 3 pages by writer Derek Hamill and artist John Hutcheson

Mechanismo. 12 pages by writer Derek Hamill and artist Mike Bunt

Robo-Hunter- Slade B.C.P.D. 8 pages by writer Dirk Van Dom and artist Mike Bunt

Rogue Trooper- I Am Mad But North North West. 5 pages by writer Dan Hill and artist David Broughton

Savage/Zenith. 6 pages by writer Chris Denton and artist Dave Frankum

Add to this a superb look at the creation of the book’s cover and this would be superb value if we demanded double for it, however you can get it for only £3.00 in print and in a first- we are selling a digital download of this issue for only £2.00 via the comicsy link on the right. We really are too good to you...

Zarjaz 19

Available now- Zarjaz 19

Behind the cover by Simon Fraser, Peeps the droid brings more thrills lifted from the thought processes of the Mighty One Himself.

This issue we present:

A.B.C. Warriors- Hammerstein: It's All In The Programming 7 pages by writer Steven Denton and artist Crow.

Balls Bros: Big in the 90's. 5 pages by writer David Withers and artist Jerome Canty.

Coming Soon- Balls Bros- Big in the '90's

Sometimes at Zarjaz we'll get a pitch for a 2000 AD strip that we've not featured before. Normally these are by writers hoping that by using someone a little more obscure we'll green light a strip that's below parr, just because it's a bit different. Thankfully this is not one of those times. Writer David Withers and Artist Jerome Canty have crafted a solid piece of work and we are proud to present it.

Updated! Jake Rowlinson on S/D

The above is from a post by Rich McAuliffe regarding a strip he has in production with Jake Rowlinson. We at Dogbreath couldn't be happier with this work...

Wednesday 9 October 2013

Coming Soon- DROKK!

Almost time to start talking about this- the thrill-power containment vessels are drying and the proto-droids are cooling off after the exposure to 'that' strip...

Curious? You should be as this will be an issue of firsts...

Update: Seems like we have made an impression with this. Both Forbidden Planet and Everything Comes Back to 2000 AD have reposted...

I put this down to a combination of interest in the characters and the astounding design and artwork of David Frankum...

Monday 7 October 2013

Coming Soon- Kingdom...

Sweet Jovus, Gene the Hackman is back in the pages of Zarjaz! Story by Rich McAuliffe and art by the absurdly talented Roland Bird. Coming soon!

Coming Soon- JUDGE DREDD- COLLECTORS MARKET

Stephen Downey should draw Judge Dredd. There, said it. The art on Collectors Market is so good I am having to issue an early warning for Thrill-Power Overload! Seriously. Brace yourselves.

Judge Dredd- Collectors Market also boasts a script by Lee Robson. Maybe you'll take me seriously now. This strip will hurt you if you are not careful.

Currently scheduled for Zarjaz 19 (assuming I can convince the printer it won't break her machines) on sale in November.

Tuesday 10 September 2013

Coming Soon- HAMMERSTEIN- It's All In The Programming

Do you remember Transformers 2? The opening scene, where Optimus Prime drives out of a plane and transforms before taking on all comers? Well In 'It's All In The Programming' you will see why Hammerstein would cause Optimus Prime to leak oil in the way that only a scared robot can.

Scheduled for Zarjaz 19, written by Steven Denton and drawn by Crow, this little beauty is a whopping 7 pages long.

Monday 9 September 2013

Coming Soon- Tales of Mega-City One- A HANGING DOOR

The Phab Firewalk-

On September 21st, I'll be taking part in a firewalk to help raise money for a wonderful charity. PHAB take disabled and disadvantaged children from all across the region and provide them with an amazing holiday, full of fun, memories and valuable learning experiences.

As you can imagine, times are tough for charities all over, so I feel it's time I did my best to give something back.
As always- click to see a larger image.

The link above goes through to the 'Mydonate' page I've got set up for the event, and all funds raised will go to Phab- please help me to help them; after all, the annual camp is one of the few times they escape the comic making madness that infects my life.

Dogbreath- A Call to Arms!

Exciting news, readers!

The Galactic Crime Commission is an organisation committed to bringing justice to the furthest fringes of the known galaxy. With a highly trained and motivated workforce, the GCC is the premier agency for frontier justice in this most competitive of markets. Known informally as Strontium Dogs, GCC agents are almost exclusively made up of mutant humans from the planet Earth. This hardy breed are uniquely suited to this high stakes and challenging career. You can keep up with the latest from the GCC in the pages of Dogbreath.

Dogbreath was first published back in the late 20th Century by original editor Dr Bob. Dr Bob single handedly produced 14 issues of Dogbreath before deciding in 2007 or thereabouts to stand down. Since then Dogbreath has been published by Bolt-01 and my good compadre Richmond Clements (Though a simulated version of Dr Bob was good enough to stay on to introduce each issue)

The first issue of Dogbreath from FQP was issue 15 and we determined to bring you the best fanzine possible. We have just launched issue 27 and  our contributors read like a list of the finest creators you will ‘ever’ see including: Boo Cook, Nigel Dobbyn, Monty Nero, Graeme Neil Reid, Jim Campbell, Simon Coleby, Steve Roberts and those are just the one’s  I think of as I’m typing.

Why am I telling you this? Simple really- we need scripts. Stories, strips, features we need them all. Dogbreath is THE longest running fanzine for 2000 AD. Zarjaz doesn’t come close and the rest don’t even get a mention.

The situation at the moment is that unless we get more content Dogbreath 28 will be the last one. How’s that for exciting?

Email strontiumdogbreath@gmail.com if you want to communicate confidentially.

SummerWatch: Zarjaz 18 & Dogbreath 27

Thought it might be nice to have a round-up of those places where the new comics get a mention. If anyone out there sees a mention for anything I am involved in that I don't post here, please let me know about it.

First up: Everything Comes Back To 2000 AD and Thanks to Rich McAuliffe (KTT) for his continued support (Though he does have a strip in this issue)

Rich also created the rather superb banner above as well.

Next up is The Forbidden Planet Blog and thanks to Joe and Richard for this. Still the best comics news blog in my opinion.

Over at the wonderful Down The Tubes.net John Freeman gives us a good launch plug!

Back with Richard at ECBT2000 AD for his review, one from Mick Cassidy, one for Zarjaz from Sandsy, a Dogbreath review from Luke Foster and the Dogbreath review from Sandsy

Thanks all, this would be a lot harder without the support from you all.
